In a press conference held at his office, former Katsina State governorship candidate under the People's Redemption Party (PRP), Imrana Ja'afar Jino, expressed his intention to take legal action against the Nigerian government and power authorities over what he described as "unbearable" power outages devastating Northern Nigeria. Jino condemned the government’s poor handling of the issue, which he said has caused severe economic losses and hindered daily life in the region.
Speaking in his capacity as the founder of the Jino Support Foundation, Jino called for urgent intervention and financial compensation for all those affected by the persistent power failures. "This crisis is unacceptable in the 21st century," he stated. "People’s lives and businesses have been deeply disrupted, and some may never recover. The government must acknowledge these losses and respond accordingly."
Jino detailed the extensive damage that the lack of power has inflicted across Northern Nigeria, calling it "a tragedy that has crippled livelihoods." He criticized the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and regional power distribution companies for their failure to provide stable electricity, adding, “The time for merely complaining about power outages is over. Our people are suffering greatly, and we demand justice.”
He announced plans to form a task force that would document the full extent of the damages, aiming to collect data on the financial and personal losses people have endured. This information, he noted, would be used to demand appropriate compensation from the government. "We can no longer ignore the suffering of our communities," Jino said, insisting that every affected individual deserves restitution.
In addition to the power crisis, Jino voiced his disapproval of how Katsina State's funds are being managed, accusing the government of mismanagement and neglect of its financial responsibilities. "The state budget is being mishandled, and there is a severe lack of transparency. We plan to track every naira spent and expose any discrepancies between the budgeted and actual expenditures," he declared.
Jino urged Northern Nigerians, particularly those active on social media, to rally behind this cause. He called on citizens to demand accountability from their leaders and to ensure that future leaders are committed to addressing these issues.
